Say Cheese!
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010Canada Day seemed like a great day to have a photo shoot with the kids. Actually we happened to have a friend visiting from Rhode Island who brought his fancy camera stuff with him. My first idea was playground equipment for the kids to play on while he shot away and the play set by the swimming pool is colourful. Well that was the first mistake – kids triathlon happening and people everywhere… oh dear… park, it’s green! We walked down by the museum to see that there was yellow crime scene tape everywhere because the kids ran there…. oh dear…
Everyone back to Nana’s and get in the van and we’ll drive until we see the spot. Kids at this point are wondering why nobody is taking pictures yet. So the alternate option turned out to be fantastic. Sometimes you just can’t plan perfect but you have to let it happen. The playground by the school – no colour… a very bland canvas for the art that was about to happen.
Dija and Trey started playing and striking poses as if they did it daily. I didn’t even see all the shots that were firing but I knew they were being very cooperative and were enjoying the day. We finished with some family pictures with Justin and Astrid joining us. The camera went back to Rhode Island without showing me any of the pictures. After a few previews on facebook I waited in anticipation for the disc to arrive with photos on it.
The day it arrived I was first a little surprised at the size of the box. I was just getting the kids in the van to go to work so I took it with me. At nana’s I opened the box quickly to show the kids what it was. Wow! It was a 16 x 20 (or something like that) frame with 9 photos – a collection of favourites from the session. There is one in particular that is everyone’s favourite – “the kiss.” What amazed me during the entire morning was the way the kids showed off their own personalities for the camera and there was no way any of us could have talked them into acting the way they did. They are just plain photogenic!
I’m going to try to post a couple photos so I’m going to give credit to the guy with the camera – Jason Woodard. His work can be found on his website http://jdwoodardphotography.com/ and the kids are under portraits. This isn’t a commercial for him because he’s just a little too far away to make the trip for your photo shoot but feel free to look for Dija and Trey on his site. I didn’t ask his permission to do this either so I hope he doesn’t mind. If he does I’ll delete this post and you can all come to my dining room and see the framed photos!
